Beyond the Current Account: U.S. Financial Flows and Global Imbalances


Abstract: Global imbalances have returned to the center of international policy discussions, including at the G7 and G20. These discussions have traditionally focused on current account (CA) balances and, in particular, on the drivers and consequences of persistent trade surpluses and deficits.
